LISTEN:
1 Peter 5:1-14 (NIV)
To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: 2 Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
QUESTIONS FOR YOU TO PONDER BEFORE OUR MEETING:
What type of attitude must a prospective elder (or deacon) have (v2)?
What stands out to you the most in these verses?
As a Council, which aspects of this list are our strength as a group?
What kind of men do we need as elders and deacons at WCRC?
Re-read this passage several times today to keep it fresh in your mind. Be ready to share your list of potential men to nominate at tonight's meeting.
PRAYER
ACKNOWLEDGE WHO GOD IS - Our Father, who has called us to willingly and eagerly shepherd His flock;
ALIGN YOUR LIFE WITH GOD'S WILL - Pray that you will be a willing and eager shepherd, not one who is filling a term because you must;
ASK FOR WHAT YOU NEED - Thank God for the men on the list, and pray for wisdom as we gather as a Council to officially nominate men this evening.
