Nominating Devotions - Day 3

LISTEN:

Acts 20:28-31 (NIV)

CONTEXT: Paul is bidding farewell to the Ephesian elders for the last time, and he leaves them with these instructions:

28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard!

QUESTIONS FOR YOU TO PONDER BEFORE OUR MEETING:

  • What would you say is Paul's primary concern for the church? Is this concern still relevant today?

  • What stands out to you the most in these verses?

  • As a Council, which aspects of this list are our strength as a group?

  • What kind of men do we need as elders and deacons at WCRC?

  • Re-read this passage several times today to keep it fresh in your mind. Pray over the list of men you've written down to nominate Monday night. Are there names you need to remove or add to your list?

PRAYER

  • ACKNOWLEDGE WHO GOD IS - Our Father, who bought the Church with His own blood

  • ALIGN YOUR LIFE WITH GOD'S WILL - Pray that you, the men currently on our council, and the men nominated would have the strength and courage to defend our flock from the savage wolves;

  • ASK FOR WHAT YOU NEED - Pray for each man on your list, and pray that God will give you wisdom as to whether to bring these names forward;
