This short 8 minute overview video will really prepare you to understand the book of Hebrews
Dig Deeper:
THE GOSPEL BEGINS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT: The word 'gospel' simply means 'good news,' and it can be easy to think that the 'good news' in the Bible doesn't begin until Jesus is born at the beginning of the New Testament. But that's not the case. The opening four verses of this book make it clear that every chapter in the Old Testament points to the gospel of Jesus Christ. That means that as you read the Old Testament, always be wondering how the passage you are reading points to Christ. In other words, when we read the story of David & Goliath, the primary lesson is not 'God will slay the giants in your life,' but rather, 'God will always provide a savior for His people.' In triumphing over Goliath, David saved Israel, but as we read it in the light of Christ, we see that the victory God gave David was just a glimpse of the victory God gave us in Christ.
MEMORIZE v3: The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. Meditate (think about & concentrate on) these words throughout your day. Review our previous memory verses.
BETTER THAN THE ANGELS: The rest of chapter 1 is a litany of Old Testament passages demonstrating Christ's superiority to angels. Angels are heavenly beings with a specific purpose: they are messengers from God. Jesus is superior to them because He is not just a message from God, He is the exact representation of God!
